The giant & fierce honey bees are outside our bathroom! This photo was taken right from the window on top of the bathtub! We noticed that their vertical honeycombs are already visible — meaning, they have colonized this wall for quite sometimes.

We will leave them untouched — hopefully they dont bite us, the strangers.

muffin is trapped!

The Pit!

The bedroom door was left open.

It was at about noon when we realized that muffin is nowhere to be found — we had lost her! She does this sometimes especially when we keep the door to the backyard opened but then she would just come back at around noon after she’s done with wandering around — or when the sun gets too hot for muffin to stay comfy ourdoor.. and now we couldnt find her!

Then we heard this very faint meows coming from the bedroom. We looked around the room, under the bed, in the bathroom, inside the tub, on the dressing table, among the pile of toys, inside the tall cabinet .. and yet we still could not find her.

And there was again this faint meow coming from inside the towel cabinet — that was a suprising find. We were thinking how could it be possible that she’s inside the drawer? AND YES – when we opened the drawer, she was in there! Looking scared and tired.

Hahaha we started laughing and could not find good ways of how she could end up inside the drawer and closed the drawer lid by herself? How could that be? Did she just jump in there so hard that she slide the drawer to automatically close? That’s possible, it has to be!

Wow.. this is just a strange experience for us and for muffin too.

Anyway, we are glad that we found her.. we are not sure how long she was trapped in there.

Kesian lah si muffin.

ketam village seafood | Added 14 Jan ’08, 6.19pm MYT PST | view our flickr gallery

It’s that moment again – we’ve probably caught the steamboat crave on weekends! This time, after a short detour at IKEA for some curtains, we saw this new spacious steamboat place located at the ground floor of ikano powercentre: called The Steamboat – Ketam Village.

One immediate thing we noticed is that everybody gets their own steamboat pot — a neat move especially appreciated by those that do not really want to share other ppl chopsticks (yes, after being constantly licked and dipped in the pot). Initially we only wanted to try the tomyam soup, yet we ended up ordering the clearsoup as well. The menu seems to have a lot of items to pick but nothing much that we see different from other steamboat places that we have been; so we just ordered the prawns & fish + beef slices with those typical greens.

Both of us didnt really like the clearsoup — it is just to sweet for us. The red and green chilli paste are very plain and just okay. The tomyam soup did provide some challenges to the tongue and tastier. Other than that — we think this place is just a normal steamboat place with a predictable taste.

Food: Okay lah, nothing really special.
Soup: Tomyam is better than the clearsoup (it is just too sweet for us).
Price: You could certainly find a better value for money elsewhere
Plus point: Individual steamboat pot!

We found a great write up on the same steamboat restaurant by masak-masak. You can go straight to the article here

ps: Upon reading masak2 article, we found out that there is in fact, a special curry steamboat that the restaurant carrier — we didnt try this so no comment for now. could be the special one.

Feeling powerless

Feeling powerless – rowing for food.

This is a picture taken from Tonle Sap, the largest lake in South East Asia, filled with water from Mekong every year. This lake and its surrounding seemed like the poorest and most desperate part of Cambodia that we had seen. The kids rows on waterpails begging for money — they have intense eye, with no smile and staring at us with that outstretched hand.

The desire to take a picture of one of the kids came out instantly.

Then it hit us — we just did not know how to respond to the feeling; just the feeling of guilty and completely unsure as we seemed to be so powerless in the midst of this poverty.

moving on to wordpress

Code is Poetry!

for the past one year, we have been running mobilephotos on serendipity: meaning, we did experience what suit us best.

this was a very hard decision yet today, we moved to wordpress! the main reasons being:

a) the limited themes available for s9y, most probably due to the smaller community and not as widespread as wordpress is.

b) wordpress has a better management of post categories: i can create new tags directly from the post editing page, just by entering them in a text field, separated by commas. anyway — you’ll notice, however that the imported posts from s9y (i used rss import to automate the process) have their categories all mixed up; will probably take the rest of the weekend to fix this and its not due to wordpress but rather the import codes that i hacked from googled rss importer.

c) i like the backend template editing that wordpress offers, and also the cool widgets (although, was pioneered by s9y, so this is not something new to s9y)

moving on … mobilephotos will be using wordpress now, still for a peace of mind (if you dont want to get some code hacking and frequent change of templates, or automated upgrades etc), i do still recommend s9y!

Villagio shopping complex

Click for full size imageThis is really a splendid mall. They put a lot of details to it: for example the streetlights are lit day and night to provide a romantic atmosphere; and the sky murals go through series of lightings (changes every 30 mins or so) to emulate 24-hr cycle — just like the real sky!

Villagio Shopping Mall, Doha! It’s located between Sport City and Hyatt on Al Waab Street, Doha.

This is probably, if not, THE best mall in Qatar. The ceiling that represents closely the natural sky (see next photo) is just so breathtaking. And the lightings that are designed for different times of the day (including sunset setting!) are things that you can experience.

Of course, the gondola is a must ride (at 15 riyals) especially that the mall is about 150,000 sq meter of retail space (we did some reading, you know!).

So, if the winds blew you towards the direction of Doha, stay calm for a while in Villagio.

Me aint a lion king!

Nice pose.

This semi-military posture from muffin reminds me of the movie Lion King! Some excerpts from the scripts..

Mufasa: Everything you see exists together, in a delicate balance. As king, you need to understand that balance, and respect all the creatures — from the crawling ant to the leaping antelope.

Simba: But, dad, don’t we eat antelope?

Mufasa: Yes, Simba, but let me explain. When we die, our bodies become the grass. And the antelopes eat the grass. And so we are all connected in the great Circle of Life.

Great for the environmentalist — yet muffin is not in a world of male dominance like in Lion King, she just likes to be on top of everything! Go muffin!

On a completely unrelated matter; the month of October is not only the fasting month of Ramadan, but also the month dedicated to those with sweet tooth cravings … check out Haagen-Dasz a month long ice-cream buffet at Bangsar Village II. Abner has the details in his blog!

Hide and seek

Click for full size image

hi there! what are you looking at ? Do I owe you anything?

Excuse me but this is my plastic bag and yes, it is mine. finders keepers, losers weepers! So dont even think about getting it back. Get your own space! I need my own space. My muffin space :-)

Probably that’s what on muffin’s head. She really loves to play hide and seek with the plastic bag. She is also more than happy to attack the bag for a game.
