Hot air balloon @Putrajaya

This is the 2nd event after a hugely successful fiesta when it was first introduced last year. We were told that more than 60 hot air balloons were supposed to be participating this time around, yet only 23 were accepted due to the limited space in the fiesta area. Nonetheless, because of the rarity of hot air balloons flying in our country, the organizer is expecting more than 200,000 crowds flooding the area.

Putrajaya Hot Air Balloon

As expected, no rain today — yet the weather was very dull, hot and cloudy. Not expecting much, we did manage to get some photos of the balloons. Judging from the massive traffic jams and extreme difficulties in getting space to par cars; this should be an easy number for them to meet… still, the show today was so uninteresting and pale!

Well, we hope to see this continuing to be an annual event; needs more space for the launch sites tho’ and hopefully more balloons and blue sky in future!

More photos here.

Note to self: wake up at 6am tmrw for hot air balloon ride!

Mongolian love!

The TransSib railway … is the longest rail trip in the world. The original Tsarist-era line was built from St Petersburg (which was the capital of Russia at the time) with end-points in either Vladivostok (9265km), or Beijing (via Manchuria – 9001km). In the 1920’s a soviet-era project added a third routing – to Beijing via Mongolia(7865km).

Our beachfront house is for RENT.

We have decided to open for rent our beachfront home in Melinsung Summerbay Resort, located about 30 minutes south of Kota Kinabalu International Airport. Since we are both away, we only offer a minimum rental period of one month. It just doesn’t make sense to us rent it out for  a few days not mentioning the cost of cleaning and time taken to prepare. Longer period of more than 12 months is  preferred.

Oh, and we do want to sell this apartment too.. let us know if you are interested.

  • We have two bedrooms, both with airconds. These bedrooms have queen size beds with cabinets c/w blankets/pillows/towels
  • We also have one study room with study desk+ cabinet. It can be used as a sleeping room however, bed is not provided.
  • The main bedroom has a tub + water heater for shower; the common bath also has water heater shower.
  • The living and dining room is equipped with two fans sets; so aircond for this area is not needed.
  • Kitchen is equipped with stove + gas + fridge + knives, cooking pots, frying pan, forks+spoons + utensils, cookware sets + rice cooker
  • There is also a washing machine with drying area, vacuum cleaner, broom, bucket etc
  • More photos at http://zenoed.com/melinsung
  • For location of the property, you may refer to the map here.
  • To reserve, you may book online HERE

All aboard Eastern & Oriental Express

We have just added this to our travel calendar .. well, at least a plan to do so. The good thing is that this time, it will not involve flying. In fact, we will be on land all the time.

Yes — this is a travel plan to be on board of the The Eastern & Oriental Express that carries passengers in luxury between Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand.

We plan to travel from Kuala Lumpur to Bangkok through the dense rainforests and towering mountains past golden temples, rubber plantations and remote towns and villages.

The Eastern & Oriental Express travel the whole length from Singapore trhough KL and Butterworth to Bangkok in a distance of about 2000 km. The train was built in Japan in 1972 and was first used as the Silver Star train in New Zealand. We were told that on board the Eastern & Oriental Express, the atmosphere harks back to a ‘Colonial’ age of rattan chairs on the verandah, linen suits and tea dances; and the journey also offers the highest quality of foods (and beauty spas, too)!

Of course, with at least USD2000 per person for this Kuala Lumpur – Bangkok journey: this will probably be just a plan, until we have that amount to spare; or until someone is kind enough to sponsor our travel on this luxurious train. Aim to do this in 2010? Possibly…

the journey back home…

The feeling of being back at home in less than two weeks are slowly overtaking our daily thoughts; we should just grab a cab and run away all the way back home, with our widest grins ever!

We haven’t been back to kampung for quite a while now — and will make a point to share some of the photos we would be taking. We certainly expect a few changes in Tambunan — well, there should be. We dont know what, but we expect something. The last time I was in Toboh, I found out that almost every household has one or more less people; some had passed on and most of the younger ones are drawn to bigger towns.

.. and we are not sure if these three doggies are still accompanying my mom to the paddy fields.

.. what would it be like this time around?

EDIT: We went back on the 20th June instead.
My mom’s only brother passed away. He was the favorite uncle and he probably would have said this:

You can shed tears that I’ve gone or you can smile because I’ve lived.
You can close your eyes and pray that I’ll come back
or you can open your eyes and see all I’ve left.

Your heart can be empty because you can’t see me
or you can be full of the love we shared.
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday
or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.

You can remember me and only that I’ve gone
or you can cherish my memory and let it live on.
You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back or you can do what I’d want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

Travelling to Hanoi, Nov 2010

A place that we have never been to before: so it is rightful that we are extremely excited just to think about how we would spend a weekend in Hanoi and exploring the caves around Halong Bay!

As usual, we will just fly there and arrange everything on our own — cant find this freedom from agents.

Travelphotos will be posted are in Travelphotos.
