Nuvi 1460 – so we won’t miss a thing

A good travel companion!

We wanted to have a GPS device that is as accurate as possible to get good information and easy to follow directions. Nuvi 1460 is a better one compared to our existing Shinco GM702.

This one has a smooth touch screen with two big icons on its main screen: Where To? and View Map: simple, identifiable icons that makes it easier to use.  The icons themselves are large enough on the 5-inch screen — font size is not an issue on this baby!

It even tells you which lane to use! Hahaha .. nice feature — coupled with real view picture of the junction: you wont miss a thing.

Of course, it also has bluetooth connectivity: we connected this to iphone and blackberry — it has no issue on grabbing all the contact lists and dialing them. The volume is good, we both can listen to Hitz.FM while nuviing at the same time!

Initial verdict: use this rather than a map.

Congratulations to Spain and vuvuzelas!

FIFA World Cup 2010

Pudding predicted Spain will win the World Cup, and she was absolutely right (take that Ms Octopussy!). Congratulations to Spain! Well done.

A lot of people will keep whining abour refereing, Suarez, goal-line technologies and so on, but Spain has already set their names in the record book: winning their first cup in their first final ever.

A superb technology was indeed introduced for the first time during this 2010 World Cup too: that’s 3D broadcasting by Sony. It was on Astro channel 830 (see photos), but not having a 3DTV ourselves: it looked as if the tv were split into two and that those vuvuzelas were actually pretty plastic horns!

Other winners:

Uruguay striker Diego Forlan was awarded the Golden Ball as the World Cup’s best player Sunday, and Germany forward Thomas Mueller won the Golden Boot as the tournament’s top scorer with five goals. Spain’s Iker Casillas won the Golden Glove as the top goalkeeper.

So that’s it — the conclusion of 2010 world cup! So now, already looking forward to Brazil 2014 — maybe this time, it’ll be a travel time.

ps: want to watch replays of the world cup without that annoying vuvuzela buzz? Check out this vuvuzela filter.

Half empty or half full?

A slap from Dave Blazek — Loose Parts.

We learned today that living life in extrovert is more meaningful. We may be bias, but enjoying people around us can be more gratifying. No matter what your views of life are, the good thing is that: that can be changed for the better.

So how to change a negative habit?

Knowing that you have the power to change, and knowing that the more you give and get from others, the more positives our life experiences be; and be on top of things (which is satisfying). Be positive!

nilai 3 – the largest textile center in malaysia (most probably)

Nilai 3

NILAI lies approximately 75km south of Kuala Lumpur via the North South Expressway in the state of Negri Sembilan. Nilai 3, a recently developed district within Nilai, has become quite well-known among locals for its low-price shopping – what locals term as ‘wholesale prices’, or something that is priced at a fraction of what you would have to pay if in the city.

Nilai 3 is perched on a hilltop and is entirely made up of single-storey warehouses offering a wide variety of goods ranging from furniture and artificial flowers to porcelain and car accessories as well as tidbits and knicknacks.

Textile dealers occupy quite a large section of the township, selling various type of local and imported fabric at low prices. Clothings too are quite cheap here and branded ones, too. And this is probably why Nilai 3 has caught on well with the middle and low-income earners.

Furniture dealers have also set up shop here selling anything from ironwood and rosewood furniture or cast iron and terracotta garden benches and tables. The wood furniture come mostly from Indonesia and Vietnam, but there also some from Thailand and Myanmar according to some of the dealers there.

Also check out clay and stonewware products. Car lovers should not miss the chance of getting their cars souped up for a fraction of the cost at the many car accessory shops here. Check for best prices. If you are a homemaker, you will like Nilai 3 – there are many shops
selling kitchen utensilsand you can find practically anything here – from saucepans to forks and spoons!

There are restaurants and hawker centres at Nilai 3, so you don’t have to worry about your meals when there. And you know what? There are plenty of local food to choose from. There are also quite a number of convenience stores there, too, including a 7-Eleven and a MarryBrown.

Textile centers

Parking is not a problem but if you are thinking of purchasing large items, such as garden furniture sets, you may have to talk to the sellers to see if transportation is included in the price. But if you
are arranging for your own transportation, then just go shop!

The best time to visit Nilai 3 is after 10am (and on weekdays when the crowd is not so big!) when all shops are open and after 3pm when the sun is not overly striking. Just bring an umbrella though as Nilai 3 is pretty unshaded as the trees planted along the streets are still young and their sparse foliage offer no respite from the heat. It can get quite hot here in the afternoons!

On weekends, parking space may be a little difficult to find near to the shops but you can always park a short distance away and walk.

grip that rocks!

Will post some photos to illustrate new learning today on golf grip.
[posted illustrative photos below on the golf grip that we learnt today]

[left hand]

  1. Place the club handle to rest nicely on the heel pad. Without moving the other fingers, use the trigger finger to wrap on the club handle.
  2. If placed properly, you should be able to lift the club up.
  3. Wrap the rests of the fingers around the club
  4. Loosen the trigger finger, and rest it again not so very tight

[right hand]

  1. Overlap the little finger (or cross) over the crease between the right index and middle fingers — we used overlapping method
  2. Place the next three fingers as closed as possible to the index finger, wrapping around the club over the right thumb.
  3. Align the left thumb slightly to the left of the club, the hand V should be pointing to the right shoulder.
grip comfortably, not too tight; and swing … zooosshhhhh…

3 months wait

We found out that it will take at least 3 months before this car arrives, most probably due to AP issues: the limited number of AP issues per month

[AP = approved Permit is the system used by MITI with regards to importation of cars into the country. Without AP, it would be impossible to import car in; with AP, the importers have the exemption on import duties, excise & sales tax; this AP thing is also a big story by itself and which has been very frustating especially that all those ppl in MF and playing with this system to make tonnes of money from it -- this is another story, btw]

There will be three versions these new Toyota Camry:

  1. Toyota Camry 2.0E priced at RM139,066
  2. Toyota Camry 2.0G priced at
    RM149,053
  3. Toyota Camry 2.4V priced at RM168,303

Beckham (BEKAM) on weekend

This is the how my back looks like 3 hrs after the cupping at Puchong Reflex. Centre. Cupping is a method of treatment in which a jar is attached to the skin surface to cause local congestion through the negative pressure created by introducting heat in the form of an ignited material. I was told that this type of treatment has been practised by the chinese and the Arabs for thousand of years. In Malay this practice is known as ‘BEKAM’ and in Arabic the called ‘AL-HIJAMAH’ while in China ‘gua-sha’.

The cupping method has the function of awrming and promoting the flow of energy in the blood thus dispelling cold dampness, toxic and winds. It is also diminishing swellings and pains.

This wasnt planned until the therapist suggested that I should do cupping as my lower back has a lot of “winds” — and my back does feel loose now.

Panoramic at home

This is cool coz I’m amazed myself — didnt know it takes only a few seconds to capture a larger home view. This is a second attempt on the panoramic mobile photo; now taken at home. Sarah was oblivious to the whole historic episode happening right in front of her :) nayyyyyy.
Click for full size image

To take your own Nokia N95 panoramas simply work your way through these easy to follow steps:

  • Set up your N95 to capture images at the highest resolution – 5 mega pixels.
  • Choose ‘Landscape’ under Scene Mode for the images, this ensures a constant focus throughout the capture process.
  • Stand in your location with the camera roughly at arms length and take your first image.
  • The secret to a good panorama is trying to firstly make sure the nodal point (lens) is kept central for each of the images and secondly that there is a 20% overlap with each shot. As such the aim is to make the camera the point of rotation and move round taking your second image so it overlaps the first one – as our first four images below illustrate:
  • Carry on working your way around the scene until you are back where you started, you should take approximately 14 images for a complete circle.
  • To increase the field of view of your panorama – ie to include more of the ground or the sky/close by buildings – simply tilt the N95 upwards or downloads accordingly and go around again. Pictured below is a section of our second round of images to fit in the buildings roof.
