lok lok STREET steamboat

this is on the first row of shophouses, on the opposite ends of CIMB, Citibank and OCBC lots in bandar puteria. this is our first time here, thus this place got its special place in this mobilephotos (pic below is snapped on n95).
again, like the typical makan (eat) place in malaysia, lok lok is a great example of communal dining - this place has clear chicken soup and tomyam soup; and they offer a wide range of fresh foods such as prawns, meat, cockles, quail eggs and others — skewed and arranged on a large stainless steel plate that resemble the back of a lorry — cool enough, it has a real lorry head on its other end!
if you like masak-masak, then lok lok is a great do-it-yourself makan place.
btw, we noticed there are 3 or 4 more steamboat places close to this one: competitions and everyone — just like us, all cari makan!
Food & price: great — will come back again!

boredworkers.com has done quite a good review of this restaurant — they have more pictures too, including pictures of the lorry head and the plates.
you should go ahead and view them here: http://www.boredworkers.com/2006/06/19/lok-lok-street-steamboat/
Updated Entry: we went back here again yesterday (Oct 6th 2007) — this time we tried the herbal chicken soup and the food was excellent, as expected.
The only drawback (quite a disappointment) was that one of the skewered cockles was not fresh, making us to discard the two sticks we grabbed. The shop was so apologetic and had taken these two sticks out from the bill.
This was a great experience and how honest we felt when the manager came over to apologize — good food, good service, friendly staf … we would definitely come back!

Food ok?
this is on the same block where Zouk Spa is located, bandar puteri puchong.
will try to get the pic of the lorry head once we come back there. the food is okay; price is reasonable, if you like fatman steamboat, can go back here again la..
Hi Hi Hi…
Thanks for the information.
I went there yesterday to have dinner bcos i am Lok Lok lover.
The shop decoration is simple, nice and very comfortable… quite peaceful.
Wow!!! The soups are very delicious… We ordered the tOm yAm and hErbAl… both are good.. Heard the waitress said they got clear soup and satay soup also… next time will try… but the satay soup need to call for order
We did not expect the soup is delicious because i thought it is like all the chain shop where food is not important but the decoration… The waitress said her boss is very experience on steamboat and they convert the typical shop to concept shop…
The sauce also good… i like the red one and the first one (your photo)…
Overall we give them 90% because of the delicious food and good customer services.
gansad, Thanks again the info
yes - i didnt mention that the soup was excellent. btw, we will be going back to LLS.
fyi, there is another lok lok next to LLS; the verdict? — so so la.. probably wont come back there that soon, till we tried the others.
Hi Gansad
another Lok Lok next to LLS? I did not notice … I know the area got many steamboat… Farmland, Low Maji, Pulau ketam Steamboat and Mizi. I did have in Low Maji last month during their opening month, in conclusion, one way ticket… never go back again :<
Farmland is so so.. Mizi is not really steamboat restaurant… they are like Station 1, targeting young person who do not really taste the food but the env
I not yet tried the Pulau ketam Steamboat … any comments?
pulau ketam? havent tried yet — there is this one next to loklok: we tried the super hot soup — and it was really herbally spicy.
will try the less spicy soup next time, and get some photos.
cheers.
Hi gansad:
I try last sunday on the Restaurant Goodtimes opposite the Bumbu Bali, they actually not the Pulau Ketam style but I talk to the boss and they tell me their origin from Ipoh. You can try thier herbal+assam soup that was very nice.
they prepare 3 type of the sauce which they tell me is low, middle and hi - spicy and the sauce colour also very cute (yellow, red and green) but i test all and recommand the low spicy Thai sauce, this is the most fantastic sauce that I been try for steamboat. I think you can try out and price is affordable I pay 38 bugs for two person include the set meal, their famous chicken wing, and ‘bai bao’ lemon juice
crompton: we will certainly try this herbal+assam soup — seems very enticing, so will try this weekend, or soonest possible!
thanks for the tips on the color-based hotness scale.
