Beijing Olympic 2008

Posted by zenoed

Yes — we will be in Beijing for Olympic 2008. This is certainly going to be an exciting trip and be part of the Olympic Games.

We’ll be meeting with Fuwa, the official Beijing Olympic mascots, with the five friendly characters carrying the message of friendship and peace. So, say hello to Beibei (fish), Jingjing (panda), Huanhuan (olympic flame), Yingying (tibetian antelope) and Nini (swallow).

You can read more about Fuwa here: http://en.beijing2008.cn/spirit/beijing2008/graphic/n214068254.shtml

We’ve just got the tickets and hotel confirmation; and getting ready to apply for visa.
We certainly will share the Olympic 2008 travelphotos here.. soon.

Cheers.

With all these, we certainly hope it will be a “fresh air” and blue sky in Beijing!

    • £8.6 billion: amount spent on improving Beijing’s air quality and environment
    • 28 million: trees planted in and around Beijing in last two years
    • 3.3 million: cars on Beijing’s roads
    • 1.3 million: cars taken off Beijing’s roads since July 20
    • 300,000: trucks barred from entering Beijing since July 1
    • 110,000: tons of steel used to build Bird’s Nest Olympic Stadium
    • 60,000: workers laid off by the Shougang Steel Factory, Beijing’s biggest polluter, ahead of its re-location to Hebei Province
    • 1,000: number of new cars that take to Beijing’s roads every day
    • 200: number of the worst polluting factories in Beijing that have been re-located ahead of the Olympics
    • 13: Beijing’s position on the World Bank’s list of the most polluted cities on the planet
